Urgent Notice on Influenza A (H1N1)

The Swedish Institute for Infectious Disease Control (Smittskyddsinstitutet,SMI – www.smi.se) together with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs (Utrikesdepartemente) issued a travel advisory on 29 April 2009 for Swedes to avoid non-essential travel to Mexico in order to limit the chances of contracting the virus as well as restrict the possibility of any outbreak of Influenza A(H1N1) infection in Sweden, also known as “swine” flu. All other Swedish Government Offices are in close contact with the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare, the SMI and the Swedish Civil Contingency Agency, the three main government bodies that are simultaneously taking all necessary measures concerning Influenza A.

Comprehensive information on the H1N1 influenza in Sweden can be found on SMI website at www.smi.se. SMI has also set up a 24-hour telephone service to answer all questions regarding the influenza: Telephone No. 020-20 20 00. Please be informed that all information is available in Swedish only.

In the meantime, the Philippine Embassy in Stockholm alerts all Filipino citizens who are living in Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania or wish to travel abroad to take extra precautions to prevent contracting Influenza A (H1N1) Infection. 

Please be reminded that any medical questions or concerns about influenza or other illnesses should be directed to a medical professional.
